When to seek medical advice

Some symptoms can be easy to dismiss. If any of the following persist for more than 3 weeks, speak with a healthcare provider.

Persistent sore throat

A sore throat that does not improve with rest or usual remedies and lingers beyond 3 weeks.

Difficulty swallowing

Trouble or discomfort when swallowing food or liquids that is new or getting worse over time.

Lump in the neck

A new or unexplained lump or swelling in the neck that does not go away within 3 weeks.

Early detection improves outcomes

The earlier head and neck cancers are found, the more treatment options are available and the better the likely outcomes. Don’t delay if something feels off.
